Abstract
This paper explores the potential of two online free dictionaries, namely the Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary and Cambridge Dictionaries Online (British English) in order to assist English teachers to empower their students to better their pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary. To encourage and enable their students to practise using the target language, the teachers can introduce and demonstrate the practical points, for example, by reading aloud the phonetic transcriptions provided by the two free dictionaries. By so doing, the teachers can also point out the grammatical aspects and various meanings of vocabulary items. It is expected that the students will then make the best use of free online dictionaries to better their English on their own.
