The 9th Language and Language Teaching Conference 2022

The annual Language and Language Teaching Conference (LLTC) has been brought back this year on 4th-5th November 2022 by Universitas Sanata Dharma. Organized by 3 study programs namely Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris (PBI), Magister Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris (MPBI), and Magister Kajian Bahasa Inggris (KBI); this 9th LLTC discuss the theme of Rethinking English Language and Language Teaching in Post-Pandemic Asia.

As an annual event for those who are interested in the field of education, LLTC has always been coming up with themes that are adapted to the times. The theme that was initiated in this 9th LLTC has the correlation with the global pandemic COVID-19 impact that left a disruptive and profound impact on English-language teaching. Certainly, this learning period has not only led to immense challenges for teachers and students alike, but it has also provided a unique opportunity to understand the potential affordances of online teaching in English-language teaching. 

Overview
This year’s LLTC was attended by 105 presenters and 204 participants in parallel sessions from 39 institutions both from within and inter country. This 9th LLTC originally invited three keynote speakers, they were Prof. Stephen D. Krashen (University of Southern California, USA), Jeremy P. H. Harmer, MA. (Anglia Ruskin University, UK), and Dr. Made Frida Yulia (Universitas Sanata Dharma, Indonesia). There were also invited plenary speakers; Jorge Correa Rodriguez, Ph.D. (Children's Growth Center, Tiongkok), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Behbood Mohammadzadeh (Cyprus International University), and Dr. Abdelaziz Benkheddoudja (Ecole Normale Supérieure de Bouzaréah, Algeria).

Day 1 - 4th November 2022
The first day of 9th LLTC started with the opening prayer, National Anthem Indonesia Raya, Hymne USD, traditional dance performed by Mas Nyemit, and greetings from our rector and chairman of the committee. 

Keynote speaker 1 and plenary speakers 1 & 2 presented materials on the first day. The first keynote speaker, Prof. Stephen D. Krashen delivered his presentation, moderated by Dr. Willy A Renandya for 60 minutes, and ended by an announcement of the door prize winners. After the keynote speaker session, parallel sessions were conducted in 10 breakout rooms led by moderators. Each session has twice parallel sessions with presenters. As breakout room session had finished, the plenary speaker, Jorge Correa Rodriguez, Ph.D. shared his thoughts moderated by Rina Astuti Purnamaningwulan M.Hum. as the first plenary speaker after the first parallel session. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Behbood Mohammadzadeh as the second plenary speaker moderated by Patricia Angelina M.Hum. was having his session after parallel session and was being the last speaker for the first day.

Day 2 - 5th November 2022
The second day of the 9th LLTC happened on 5th November 2022, after the first day ended. The second day held two keynote speakers, and one plenary speaker. The second keynote speaker who opened the second day was Paulus Kuswandono Ph.D. moderated by Markus Budiraharjo S.Pd., M.Ed., Ed.D, Paulus Kuswandono Ph.D. replaced Jeremy P. H. Harmer, MA. who was unable to attend the webinar. The plenary speaker session was run by Dr. Abdelaziz Benkheddoudja moderated by Mega Wulandari M.Hum. Furthermore, the last keynote speaker session was closed with Dr. Made Frida Yulia as the 3rd keynote speaker, moderated by P. Sarwoto Ph.D. As usual, between each speaker’s session, participants were required to join break out rooms. Two parallel sessions were conducted on the second day.
