IERA Chapter USD Holds First Book Club offline after Pandemic

the Indonesian Extensive Reading Association (IERA) chapter of Universitas Sanata Dharma holds an offline Book Club in the Student Hall on Campus I of Universitas Sanata Dharma on 29 October 2022.
The event which was attended by 110 semester 1 students was held in two sessions. The first session was held at 08.00 – 10.00 WIB while the second session was held at 10.30 – 12.30 WIB. This event was led by group leaders who were PBI students in semesters 3-7. They are literacy activists and part of the USD IERA chapter.

The book used as material for discussion is “S
ad Book” by Michael Rosen which tells about h
is personal experience dealing with the grief of losing his beloved son and also his mother and how he managed to deal with that grief.


In small groups, group leaders and students disc
uss using the following trigger questions:
1. Share a favorite quote from the book. Why does this quote stand out?
2. Which character in the book would you most like to meet?
3. What do you think of the book's title? How does it relate to the book's contents? What other title might you choose?
4. What song(s) does this book make you think of?
5. Does any of the characters remind you of anyone?
6. What other books did this remind you of?
From this discussion, participants can share personal experiences that they want to share as well as practice honing empathy and learning to understand each other.
The committee gave awards in the form of novels to participants who actively participated in the activity.
