King Arthur’s Socks by Floyd Dell

The story began in Camelot, England in the life of a young elegant-yet-childish lady, whose name was Guenevere (Gwen) Robinson. Her husband, Arthur B. Robinson, as usual, was on trip a overseas due to his job, leaving Gwen alone until she felt like a widow. On one summer, Gwen was staying in her husband’s cottage with her innocent and loyal maid, Mary. She spent most of her lonely summer darning piles of socks to kill the time rather than buying new ones, which was very likely since the Robinsons’ wealth seems immeasurable. In short, Gwen’s life is very much lonely and boring despite the richness that she has.

Meanwhile, outside the Robinsons’ cottage, a young stunning bachelor, whose name was Lancelot Jones, was visiting Camelot in behalf of his job as an artist. The young bachelor was famous for his reputation as a charmer. He seduced many women as he passed the town. All of his victims could never resist his charisma and gentleness including Mary the maid, Vivien Smith the most gorgeous eccentric artist in town, and even Gwen herself despite the fact that she’s already married.

How the love blooming in the air will go?

SWEET AND TWENTY

The more they resisted their feeling for each other, the stronger their feeling became. Suddenly, a man, who was the agent of the property, appeared and gave his wise thoughts to them. He talked about marriage and how it should be. His words bewildered the young man and woman who were indecisive whether they loved each other and should get married.  When they were having a talk, a mysterious man, who dressed like a guard, came and grabbed the agent. Who was he?
