Graduate Program in English Language Studies (S2 KBI) Sanata Dharma University held a party in order to officially gave farewell to its alumni on September 7, 2017 located in Lontar Room. This party were attended by 20 alumni of ELS USD who have passed the final Thesis Defence exam, their respective guest, and of course the lecturers and staff of ELS USD
The party began with opening prayer from Dr. Emanuel Sunarto. Then there are several speeches from Father Dr. G. Budi Subanar, S.J. as the Head of Graduate Program of Sanata Dharma University, Paulus Sarwoto, Ph.D as the Head of ELS, and F. Widya Kiswara, S.Pd., M.Hum. as the Head of AELSA (ELS Alumni Organization)
Father Subanar in his opening speech remarks several points in his opening speech, among of them are education is tear and education is stress. These points were taken from the word of artists who have tried to re-imagine Driyarkara's word through painting. Through his speech, Father Subanar emphasized that education is really important and he hoped the alumni can use the education that they have got to become better person by helping the society.
Mr Sarwoto began his speech by introducing the lecturers of ELS to the guests and presented the data of how many student graduated at this period. Then he added Father Subanar word especially in the part Education is tear. "You all should be able to change the tears into fountain that make lives to surrounding area." Mr. Sarwoto said, further emphasizing the importance of giving back the knowledge that the alumni got to the society.
Last speech were given by Mr. Widya. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of language to nowadays words and asked the alumni to join AELSA should they want to. It is because language is always changing and the cooperation from alumni shall provide better insight of how to act as a language learner in this ever-changing world. "The organization also function as a group where you can share your idea and concern to," said Mr. Widya.
The party continued by the duo acoustic performance of Max and Marshall (ELS Batch 2015) that enchanted the audiences with their beautiful performance. The party continued with a sharing speech from Alumni representative. She said that she had wonderful time in ELS and wish she could be there forever. She also made important point about how her life in ELS taught her and her friends to never give up no matter on what condition, a good lesson for the future.
The party was closed by photo session and dining together of all guests. Though the party had already over, the journey of the alumni has only just begun. Spread your wings, shake a leg, and let's start again! (Mic)
