diupdate: 11 tahun yang lalu

Sim Bing Wen, a student from National University of Singapore, clinched his three-week Bahasa Indonesia Immersion Program in Language Institute with an open presentation on Friday (26/06/2015). Fluently, he presented his short essay about the controversies of censorship before the international audiences consisted of students from many countries.

With his fluent Indonesian, Bing Wen explained pros and cons of censorship in many media based on a small research he had done previously. He mentioned that censorship has advantages, e.g., to prevent conflicts and to maintain people’s responsibility in creating or reporting things, as well as disadvantages as for it might deprive the freedom of speech or blur the fact for some parties’ interest. The presentation was, then, followed by Q&A session that came up with enticing discussions about self-censorship and the philosophy of censorship.

The open presentation was a part of the Immersion Program held from June 4-26, 2015, and was meant to be the final assessment for Bing Wen. Before it, he had already taken series of language classes, culture classes (i.e., Batik workshop, Wayang workshop, Silvercraft workshop in Kotagede), and field studies (i.e., Traditional pottery, Pesantren visit, and orphanage visit).

Bahasa Indonesia Immersion Program is an annual program held by National University of Singapore in collaboration with Language Institute. (PD)
