On the 1st and 2nd of May 2016, Sanata Dharma University sent 2 teams to compete in English Debate Competition Management Festival 2016, a debating competition held by the Economy Faculty of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. The first team, SADHAR A, consisted of Tiara Ika Putri (2014), Diksita Ayu Gita (2014) and Gracia Prasetyanti Utami (2015), automatically proceeded to the grand final round after collecting full victory points out of 3 rounds, beating the teams from Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) and Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY). Eventhough team SADHAR B, which consisted of Anoxia Festyarini A. (2014), Belandina Moore (2014) and Jessica Bilung (2014) managed to be the second team to break into the top 3 teams, team SADHAR B had to go against Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta first in order to become the grand finalist of the competition along with SADHAR A. Luckily, team SADHAR B could successfully tackle down the team from UNY, making them the grand finalist of HIMAMA UMY and forcing the civil war between SADHAR A and SADHAR B to happen.  After a great round of debate with the motion :” This House Would Impose Minimum Quota of Ethnic Minority Academics (e.g Lecturers and Professors) in University Department”, finally the judges decided to give the winning to SADHAR A and SADHAR B as the runner up. Besides becoming a champion of the competition, 2 debaters of SADHAR A, Tiara Ika Putri and Gracia Prasetyanti Utami, were among the list of the top 4 best speakers, adding the achievements of Sanata Dharma teams in HIMAMA UMY 2016.

The achievements made by SADHAR A and SADHAR B, were the results of intense practices that they had for almost 2 weeks. “It was hard, but it was all worth it.”, stated one of the Sanata Dharma debaters. For them, becoming a winner should not be the thing to focus on during the competitions, but more to how they could perform their best in every round, or it would get devastating once it is not as good as what they expected before. “If we failed, we take that as a lesson and try to be better in the next competition,” added Anoxia Festy. Regardless of that, both team agreed that the achievements would not make them feel satisfied yet, there are still a lot more of competitions to come and they hope to achieve more victories in the national and international level (festy).
