The Academic Retreat was once again presented by the Graduate Program in English Language Studies. A total of 24 students and 7 lecturers from ELS Sanata Dharma University participated in the three-day program, which was held in Disaster Oasis, Kaliurang, from October 27 to 29.
The ELS USD hosts an Academic Retreat every year as a way to check student academic performance, particularly to help them with their thesis. Although this event was first hosted in 2018, due to Corona, it was held online in 2020. In 2021, the event begins being hosted offline once the situation has improved.
Paulus Sarwoto, Ph.D., the head of the ELS, presided over the opening meeting on the first day of the retreat, which got underway at 4:30 PM. After that, the students were left to unwind and get used to the surroundings before meeting up in groups with their advisors. On the second and third days of the retreat, a morning stroll to Museum Gunungapi Merapi and Omah Petruk was planned to allow participants to relax while taking in Kaliurang’s fresh air. Following that, they would spend the rest of their retreat engaging in either advisor-supervised group discussion or individual work. The schedule was quite flexible, there were refreshments and beverages available, and the students could do their theses in their own time. (AD)
