ACUCA CAMP 2016, Part 2 :: Magister Manajemen

Magister Manajemen USD News, August 23rd, 2016. The second day of the ACUCA program was held successfully. All the participants have enjoyed it although the activities almost moved less. There were four main parts to this second-day program as meditation, keynote speech, group discussion or sharing, and country presentation.

The First, meditation was done in the morning worship with title “value of everyday spirituality” (in the garden) and in the night with title “value of Christian faith in plurality” (at the Hall I).

The Second, keynote speech which talked much about the main theme of the ACUCA at this moment were presented by Ir. Henry Feriadi, M.Sc., Ph.D (Duta Wacana Christian University rector) and Dr Stephanus Djunatan (member of the research team of Parahyangan Catholic University). Mr Henry talked much about the meaning of spirituality, religion and mystical. He also explained the spreading history of the big five religion in the world (Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam). He showed us the meaning of diversity by explaining the group DNA (biology aspect) in the world, especially in Asia. He said, “there is no pure DNA in each race in this world”. He gave the example like Chinese in Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippine and in the other countries. They are similar but the DNA is really different. Then he guided us the cultural imagination e.g ‘the last suffer’ painting in some cultural perspective as India, Java, China and West. The last, he explained about the z generation, its uniqueness and its challenges for this contemporary context.

Mr Djunatan, in his article “animating Christian spirituality in plural Asian”, explained the theme closed to the philosophical perspective. He said that the religion comes with the cultural context, adaptation without leave the value. Interpretation, of course, often base on the local and historical culture. He described how the fear of others can lead to violence and war. He said sometimes it is because of the identity problem. he explained more about identity. Identity has vertical aspect that we can not change like history, our genetic, race, etc. and the horizontal aspect like religion, affiliation, social relation etc. finally, he also made a statement that the conflicts related to the plurality is not pure conflict because sometimes it is political aspect, personal aim etc.

The third, we, firstly, took a discussion about main issues that we have in our daily life in facing the other religions in our each country. We were divided into some group with different countries. In my group, a friend (Japanese) said that in japan we do not need to show what our religion identity. A friend from Hong Kong explained the main problem in his country where the Christian just focuses on their own church and ignore the other issues as LGBT, social problem etc. Taiwan, it is said that it is more conservative or rigid one. It was similar to Philippine which needs to interact with other religion and accept the others. some of Indonesian also explained similarly with the others participants, especially in minority perspective. In sharing, we tried to share our each ‘bad experiences’ in our life and the moment when we feel the God love in our life according to our ‘bad experiences’.

The last, each country took a presentation about the main the theme of ACUCA Student Camp, that had been prepared by each country before the camp started. What we had discussed in groups occurred in this presentation. The main problems that base on cultural aspect, history, government and education were explained deeper according to each country. It was a great day. We learned many things today.
