Friday, December 2, 2022, students of Magister Management in International Tourism (MMIT), Sanata Dharma University, conducted one day field study at Pulewulung Community-based Tourism. The students were accompanied by Antonius Sumarwan, S.J., Ph.D., the lecturer of Marketing Management for Hospitality Industry.

This field study aimed to give five students from Tanzania the experience of community-based tourism in Indonesia as well as an opportunity to use marketing theories they have learn in the class for analysing tourism phenomena.

Pulewulung Tourism Village, located in Turi, Sleman, Yogyakarta, offers educational tours related to the cultivation of Zalacca plants. The students participating in the field study were Prosper W Mmari, Nickson Mwinuka, Williamm Msilu, Maryness Patrick and Phabiano Edward.

They shared their experiences through four articles. Nickson wrote an article detailing all aspect of Pulewulung as a community-based tourist destination, while Marryness and William shared their impressions during the visit using experiential marketing lens. Phabiano and Prosper introduced Mr. Wawan, the tour guide accompanying the visit. This article tells us how Mr. Wawan entered tourism industry and how he has been building his career in this industry. It also reflect on the contribution of tour guides in tourism industry.
