The Global Leadership Program (GLP) is an annual program of the AJCU-AP (Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities in Asia Pacific). Through the implementation of this program, the younger generation are expected to contribute in providing solutions forglobal problems. There are five universities involved in this program including: Ateneo de Manila (Philippines), Fu Jen Catholic University (Taiwan), Sanata Dharma University (Indonesia), Sogang University (South Korea) and Sophia University (Japan) which hosted the GLP this year. The GLP took place in Tokyo from 06-12 August 2017.
Before leaving for Japan, the delegates attended a very helpful event for the preparation of the SDU (Sanata Dharma University) delegates. The event was organized by the International Office of Sanata Dharma University with the GLP team. For some delegates, visiting Japan was a dream come true. In addition, the SDU delegates also learned a lot of positive lessons and insight about leadership with Ignatian spirit and urban renewal which is the theme of GLP this year. There were three subtopics of the main theme in GLP which included Urban Agriculture, Urban Entrepreneur, and Urban Water Resource Management. The USD delegates were helped from various parties to add insights on innovation or urban renewal according to the three subtopics such as Greenhost Boutique Hotel Prawirotaman (Urban Agriculture), Gudeg Yu Djum (Urban Entrepreneur), and The Community for the Conservation of Sungai Kuning(Urban Water Resource Management).
The main agenda of GLP were the presentation of university introduction and Yogyakarta city renewal, cultural performances, discussion and presentation about field trip. The field trip was a very fun activity for the delegates because not only didthey get knowledge but also went sightseeing. The field trip was different for each subtopic. The Urban Agriculture team visited Ebisu Station Garden Rooftop, Urban Entrepreneur team visited NUNO and Niwa Hotel and Urban Water Resource Management visited Kanda river/Loap road no.7 underground. USD Delegates were inspired and thankful for the field trips. Hopefully, Japan with its high technology and work ethics can be a good example for Indonesia. USD delegates this year are Angga Dwi Putra (Psychology 2013), Arnoldus Andre Dwi Cahya Nyudak (ELESP 2014), Budi Sutrisno (English Letters 2014), Elisabeth Kusuma Adi Permatasari (Informatics Engineering 2014), Ni Wayan Yeccika Oktavianingsih (ELESP 2013), and Ranti Kartika (ELESP 2014). The delegates were supervised by Mr. Simon Arsa Manggala, S.S., M.Hum. who is a lecturer of English Letters.
Many positive lessons were learned from the GLP that will be useful for SDU delegates. SDU delegates in particular learned about leadership with Ignatian spirit. Leadership with Ignatian spirit is concerned about being a reliable leader and to rely on God. As quoted from St. Ignatius, “pray as if everything depended on God and work as if everything depended on you.”-(NY)
