Annually, Sanata Dharma University (SDU) collaborates with Konkuk University to conduct an exchange program for the students from each university to learn about culture and language. Every winter SDU sends students to Konkuk University to learn about Korean culture and language for two weeks and every summer Konkuk University sends students to SDU to learn about Indonesian language and culture. This year, this program which is called the Sanata Dharma University Summer Program will be conducted from 11-22 July 2017.
This program which is held with coordination by the International Office of SDU began with the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony started with a speech from Drs. Johannes Eka Priyatma, M.Sc., Ph.D as the rector of USD. In his speech, Mr. Eka Priyatma welcomed all students from Konkuk University and expressed hope that they can learn the local wisdoms of Indonesia especially in Yogyakarta. He also hopes that Konkuk University students will get meaningful experiences by joining this program. He stated that SDU is very grateful for this fruitful collaboration between Konkuk University and Sanata Dharma University. After the speech, the International Office team gave an orientation about the program, ethics and manners which are acceptable in Yogyakarta.
During their stay in Indonesia, Konkuk University students will engage in some activities such as learning to play Gamelan, learning about the traditional dances, taking a cooking class, Batik class and making Wayang as special ways to learn about Indonesian culture. Besides learning Indonesian culture, they will also learn the Indonesian language at SDU’s Language Institute.
The students come to Indonesia not only to study but also enjoy the scenery. Thus, the students of Konkuk University will go sightseeing on field trips to some famous tourist attractions in or near Yogyakarta such as Borobudur temple, Prambanan temple, Sultan Palace, Malioboro, Imogiri and some beaches in Gunung Kidul.
